Nicole Beumer
Nicole Beumer tells us that, “From a childhood spent outdoors, playing ball games, my journey to becoming a professional squash player was anything but conventional. Defying norms, I turned pro at 20, embarking on a 10-year journey representing the national team, achieving a remarkable world ranking of 18. The transition to coaching and parenthood didn’t slow me down. Founding Team Power while playing, I organized corporate events, fostering team spirit through sports. As a national coach, I led the Dutch team to victory in the 2010 European championships. Embracing padel in 2019, I expanded my horizons, amidst the challenges of COVID. I i I guess my story is one of resilience, reinvention, and a passion for play and wellbeing.”
What were your initial years of growing up like? Tell us about your life before starting your corporate journey/venture/initiative.
My childhood was a happy one as far as I can remember. Growing up with a French mum and Dutch Father we were raised bi-languagal. Me and my sisters always felt we were different because of the mixed marriage and cultures in which we were raised. As a child I always loved to play and be outdoors. A bit of a dreamer and loner, maybe not belonging 100% in one culture. Always loved to be around foreigners and travel there. I felt at home with international people like I was used to from home. Play helped me to feel connected with others and felt no borders.
Every industry that is now a large-scale, top-notch business once started as a small idea in the minds of entrepreneurs. What was that idea or motivation that made you start your business /initiative? What motivated you within to say YES, go for it!”
I always had a love for play. During my professional career and after I was always aware of how fortunate I was to meet so many people all over the world. Sport connects people and looking back it is not the trophies I have won that stand out but all the interesting people I have met along the way. As a coach and in my events I enjoyed connecting people and realised that play does the same for everyone. When we play we are engaged in the purest expression of our humanity, the truest expression of our individuality. Is it any wonder that often the times we feel most alive, those that make up our best memories, are moments of play? Making play part of our daily lives is probably the most important factor in being a fulfilled human being.
Tell us something about your initiative or current role. What is it about, and what impact are you trying to make?
With a deep understanding of the power of play, Nicole specializes in creating engaging team-building business-events, social clubs, and expat experiences. She incorporates various sports, including the popular game of padel, to foster connections and promote teamwork. Your journey and your vision are very inspiring, but are there any achievements or accomplishments you would like to mention?
Most proud I am of following my heart and passion that led me to see lots of the world and meet so many people. I believe I have found my purpose now by still playing sports every day and sharing my passion with many. Travelling the world and founding an international community here in Amsterdam through a new passion I discovered at a later age. Proud to have been a champion myself, proud of coaching the Dutch Team to the European title and super proud on facilitating events for business & international teams and connecting people by “play”
Would you like to share with our young budding women entrepreneurs the change you would like to see in the world if given an opportunity?
I am lucky to live in the Netherlands where equality between men and women is normal. Or at least very progressive. Women are by nature more nurturing and think they should lead more in many fields. All people should have the same chances to pursue their passions and make positive changes to our world.
What would you want to say to our young women leaders/audience reading this?
Follow your heart, follow your truth and your own journey. Everyone is unique and has something to contribute.
