Mickey Cohn
Mickey Cohn is a Transformative Leadership Coach.
If your business could have a mascot, what would it be and why?
A dog, puppy. One that is forever a representation of love, loyalty, adventure, and fun.
What strategies do you employ to maintain a healthy work-life balance while running your own business?
Exercise Daily, Sleep Enough, Schedule “Me Time” in my calendar first, select priorities over expedience or even urgency. Make sure my calendar appointments reflect a predominance of money making activities and service to people.
When faced with unexpected detours on your business path, how do you pivot with grace and resilience, showing fellow women entrepreneurs the way forward?
Slow down, take a breath, quiet my thinking, connect with SELF. Remember who I am and have been, to come this far. Look for the opportunity in the detours.
How do you measure the success of your business beyond financial metrics, such as customer satisfaction or community engagement?
The quality of work, actions, and growth that my clients experience during their time working with me and beyond. The impact on them and by extension their communities experience as a result of the clients actions, intentions, and commitments. Also the number of people referred to me by the same clients.
Can you share a memorable moment where you witnessed significant growth or transformation in your business, illustrating the impact of your services/products?
When I recognized the distinction, “Serving vs. Helping.” I used to help people thinking I was serving them. Helping is ego based; I want to help. I want to fix it. Me, I. It was about me, not the client. I want to help them because they’ll see how good “I” am, or, If I help them enough, they will hire me, refer me and I’ll make money and grow my business. When I serve someone, I am being of service to them. It is for them as they see fit. There is no expectation on my part. It’s not about me. This is “verb” based, it’s an act(ion), not a noun, like “I”.
What role do you believe mentorship plays in the success of small businesses, and how have mentors influenced your own entrepreneurial journey?
I believe mentorship is a huge benefit to entrepreneurs. Those who start a business or an enterprise, have a vision and a particular viewpoint, that by definition is limited. By having a coach or a mentor acting in concert with them, the scope of seeing immediately is multiplied by an exponential factor. A good mentor or coach, brings experience and knowledge for the client to act on and use as a reference. A great coach or mentor, will bring the knowledge with questions, and challenge the entrepreneur’s premises and act as a catalyst for their growth and learning, allowing them to grow exponentially and widen their awareness. My coaches have always challenged me to question things with a trained eye, not to be uncertain, but to see what might be missing, that once added changes everything.
What’s your work all about, and how does it make a difference in the world?
My work is about waking people up to themselves and embracing their power and their skills. When people come back to themselves, they are peaceful, clear, and confident. They are also more forgiving and less judgmental, allowing for more outcomes and responses to what shows up in their world. All of these contribute to more openings into what is possible, collaboration, and inclusion. When you are cooperative, there are more possibilities available. More connection, growth, learning, harmony, etc.
