Dr Ewelina Kurtys
Dr Ewelina Kurtys tells us that, “I did scientific research in neuroscience. After completing several projects including my PhD and publishing 11 papers in peer-reviewed journals I left academia for entrepreneurship.
I learnt sales and business development at technology companies and started my own business: consultancy Ekai Ltd – which deals with various aspects of technology commercialisation, particularly searching for new business opportunities (clients, technical partnerships) and marketing.
I am currently:
(I) consulting on business development and
(II) building my own startup – Psync – which is a mental wellness app that aims to bring the latest psychology tools directly into your pocket.

Before you became the business titan you are today, enlighten us about the thrilling adventures of your pre-business life.
I was working as an academic researcher. I did PhD in brain imaging in The Netherlands and later I continued my research in imaging field at Kings College in London.
Before that, I studied Pharmacy and did few research projects in European countries (Poland, Belgium and Italy).
I was always fascinated by collaborative, multidisciplinary projects.
Could you elaborate on the nature of your initiative/ business/current role, highlighting its purpose and the ways it benefits people?
I started Psync because of my passion for brain science and technology. We want to make a virtual Psychologist, to help people to get stronger, using mental tools from sport psychology.
We hope it will help people to build character, develop better habits, and perform daily introspection.
Apart from product awareness, we also want to help to spread the message about the positive impact of psychology on our lives.
What has been the response of the users/consumers towards your venture?
Many people are fascinated with our project and appreciate its value. The best proof of this is our long list of Ambassadors, who you can find on our Community page: https://psync-app.com/community/
Having a strong support system is essential for your well-being. We would love to know who your biggest supporter is. Share with us and let’s celebrate the amazing people in our lives who make a positive impact.
My friends and family. I think it is essential to build a great network around yourself, not only in your professional life but also in your personal life.
As a young woman entrepreneur, what changes do you hope to see in the world and what opportunities are you seeking?
I am a firm believer in making education more accessible for everyone. I think this is one of the best outcomes of globalization and increased connectivity, that a lot of knowledge for which in the past you had to go to top expensive schools, is now available for free or at a very low cost online. I particularly benefited using YouTube (free) and coursera (for a fee which is a fraction of what traditional schools are asking).
I also think that online teaching improves the learning process for each individual, as everyone of us can learn at his/her optimal speed.
Women now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with men in the workplace, breaking through glass ceilings to reach the top. What are your thoughts on women’s leadership today?
I am very lucky that during my professional work I have never experienced any barriers, and I think we are living in great times with much more possibilities open than to our grandmothers.
Empowering women is best achieved through mutual support. Your work is truly inspiring. Would you like to nominate another female leader for this interview? If so, please provide details. We would love to hear more!
