Joia Jefferson Nuri
Joia Jefferson Nuri tells us that, “At heart, I am profoundly linked to my ethnicity, gender, and family. As a servant leader, I am committed to guiding individuals towards their greatest potential.”
Before you became the business titan you are today, enlighten us about the thrilling adventures of your pre-business life.
I have always worked. Throughout my career, I’ve constantly challenged the status quo. As a college sophomore, I was one of the first female technicians at NBC News, I swiftly rose to become the first Black woman technical director for CBS Evening News and Face The Nation. I further shattered gender and racial barriers as a senior producer at renowned outlets like NPR, PBS, and C-SPAN.
Could you elaborate on the nature of your initiative/ business/current role, highlighting its purpose and the ways it benefits people?
I empower women of color to transition from their excellence sphere to their genius zone. Obstacles like racism, misogyny, and cultural barriers often obstruct their path to top leadership roles. Moreover, they also grapple with the harsh impact of inner criticism. I ask the powerful questions and explore their life experience to break through any false upper limits.
What has been the response of the users/consumers towards your venture?
The overwhelming wave of appreciation I receive from my clients truly humbles me. It’s an honor observing their incredible journey over the years, as they conquer their inner critics and masterfully execute strategic plans for their careers and businesses. The affectionate gratitude they express is both heartwarming and humbling, leaving me truly touched.
Having a strong support system is essential for your well-being. We would love to know who your biggest supporter is. Share with us and let’s celebrate the amazing people in our lives who make a positive impact.
My unwavering pillar of strength is the divine force – God. With every stride I take, I feel His guiding hand. He blessed me with extraordinary parents and a wise maternal grandmother, who instilled in me the belief that ‘everything unfolds in divine order’. My childhood companions were my cousins and they have grown to become my closest confidants. The friendships I fostered in college and during my life journey have become my rock. I am enveloped in a resilient network of love, unbreakable and ever-present.
As a young woman entrepreneur, what changes do you hope to see in the world and what opportunities are you seeking?
As an experienced maven, my journey spans across decades of profound change for women. I have witnessed the evolution from a time when women needed a man’s signature for a credit card, to the present, where women of color stand as leaders in Fortune 500 companies. What a remarkable transformation this has been!
In the future, my hope is for a collective effort to dismantle the global barriers that restrict the potential of women. We have the capability to solve complex problems, and our successes are not isolated incidents but a testament to our inherent strength. From managing households to leading governments and achieving billionaire status, we have proved time and again that we are capable, and we are ready to rise. Let’s embrace this journey together!
Women now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with men in the workplace, breaking through glass ceilings to reach the top. What are your thoughts on women’s leadership today?
The global advancements of women in the corporate realm are indeed noteworthy. However, it’s disconcerting that many female captains find their ships amidst financial storms and organizational chaos. Alarmingly, a growing trend of women vacating top leadership positions is emerging worldwide.
Indeed, we’ve travelled over significant roadblocks, yet an expansive terrain of challenges still awaits us. It’s a pivotal era where women are discovering that their leadership doesn’t need to mirror men’s traditional styles. We can steer with heart and intuition, sidestepping the pitfalls of deceit, distrust, and greed.
As we prepare to redefine the contours of industry and invigorate small businesses, let’s remember: this is our moment. This is the epoch of the empowered woman.
