Meet Angela Maiers- Educator, Change-maker and founder of Choose2Matter, an organization that motivates people to make the ‘mattering’ of themselves an important priority.
Angela dons many hats- she is a leader, visionary, entrepreneur, disruptor, and change-maker. She embodies each of these descriptors with passion, commitment and fierce determination. She has been creating and leading change in both education and enterprise for 31 years, teaching every level of school from grade school to graduate school and consulting with various companies. Her talk at TEDxDesMoines has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times around the world.
Angela has earned a B.S. in Education with a minor in Neuroscience and a Master’s Degree in Literacy and Ed Leadership. She is the author of eight books, including Genius Matters, Classroom Habitudes, and The Passion-Driven Classroom. Angela was a regular contributor to the Huffington Post and is widely recognized as one of most influential voices on social media today, consistently ranking in the top 1%.
She is the founder of Choose2Matter, a universal movement that challenges us to make ‘mattering’ a way of life. It depends on the idea when people accept that they matter- their actions, lives, learning, etc. count and this creates a change in the world. Choose2Matter offers presentations, live and virtual workshops, and live innovation events to schools, organizations, businesses, and communities.
Choose2Matter is a living example of the youth-quake that continues to shake business and culture to their cores. With a focus on helping youth around the world realize their power and the potential of technology, Choose2Matter shows companies how to connect in a meaningful way with young people—as customers, as employees, and as partners.
“I have always been a dreamer and a worker. I had my first babysitting cadre at 11 years old. From as early as I can remember I have been creating, innovating, and moving forward with change. Believing that I mattered enough to commit to all I have imagined myself to do and be,” she says.
With her constant efforts, she has successfully ignited a movement of ‘mattering’ that empowers individuals and organizations to work collaboratively to solve their most complex and urgent problems. It includes, but is not limited to: launching social enterprises, passing laws, and most importantly reminding every member of their community that they are essential.
Today, Angela’s work is featured in over 68,000 classrooms and engages learners and leaders to use their talents and passions to take action on what matters to them most. In addition to developing the skills and finding the tools they need to take the next step in their journey towards making an impact in the world.
“The topics I speak about and educate for relating to humanity and its advancement of it, so my work helps me work across industries and organizations. I love the intersectionality and bridging the gap with those who may otherwise not have connected. It has helped me pick the right team and execute at the right time,” she says.
